Deployment: Invicti Platform on-demand, Invicti Platform on-premises
Update Acunetix on-premises to the latest build
Keep Acunetix on-premises on the latest build so you receive new features, security checks, improvements, and bug fixes, and so you meet the prerequisite for moving to Invicti Platform. This document explains how to change the Acunetix update policy, how to update manually, and how to update Acunetix on Linux.
By default, Acunetix on-premises checks for updates and automatically downloads and installs them. You can change the update policy to be notified of new updates instead, or turn off the automatic check.
Acunetix online updates automatically. The steps in this document apply only to Acunetix on-premises.
For updating an Acunetix Docker container, refer to the Update an Acunetix Docker container document.
Why this matters
Updating to the latest build is a prerequisite for moving from Acunetix on-premises to Invicti Platform. For more information, refer to the Moving from Acunetix on-premises to Invicti Platform document. A current build also makes sure you scan your web applications for the latest security threats.
Set the update policy
Acunetix has three update policy options:
- Download and install updates automatically - the default option. Acunetix downloads and installs available updates and informs you when the update is complete. Before installing an update, Acunetix waits for any running scans to complete.
- Notify me of new product updates - Acunetix notifies you of new product updates, and you must update Acunetix manually.
- Do not automatically check for updates - Acunetix doesn't check for updates automatically. This option isn't recommended. To check for updates, select About and click Check for updates.
To change the update policy:
- Log in to Acunetix.
- Select About from the left-side menu.
- Click the Update policy drop-down and select your preferred option.
- Click Save.
Update Acunetix manually
If you changed the update policy to notify you of new updates or turned off the automatic check, update Acunetix manually to receive new features, security checks, improvements, and bug fixes.
Back up your database before you start the update process. This is strongly recommended.
- Click the notification icon to check the update information.
- Select Update. Acunetix informs you that it's updating. Wait while Acunetix updates the build in the background.
- Close the Acunetix tab and relaunch Acunetix so the update takes effect.
Check for updates
To check whether a new build is available:
- Log in to Acunetix.
- Select About from the left-side menu.
- Click Check for updates. If a new build is available, the message New build available. Update. appears.
- Select Update to start downloading and installing the latest build.
Update Acunetix on Linux
Run the latest Acunetix installer for Linux directly on the machine that runs the previous version of Acunetix. The installer detects the older version and updates it to the latest version. Acunetix retains all your settings.
-
Close all instances of Acunetix.
-
Optional: Back up the Acunetix data folder, which includes the Acunetix database and other settings. These files are in
/home/acunetix/.acunetix. -
Download the latest Linux version of Acunetix. If you don't have the download link, contact your Customer Success Manager.
-
Open a terminal window.
-
Add executable permissions to the installation file. For example:
chmod +x acunetix_<version>_x64.sh -
Run the installation. For example:
sudo ./acunetix_<version>_x64.sh -
Review and accept the license agreement.
-
Configure the hostname to use to access the Acunetix UI.
-
Provide credentials for the administrative user account. You use these credentials to access and configure Acunetix.
-
Proceed with the installation.
Update an Acunetix Docker container
To update Acunetix when you run it in a Docker container, refer to the Update an Acunetix Docker container document.
Troubleshooting
The update finished but I don't see the new build
Close the Acunetix browser tab and relaunch Acunetix so the update can take effect.
Acunetix doesn't install updates automatically
Check that the update policy isn't set to Notify me of new product updates or Do not automatically check for updates. Also, when automatic updates are on, Acunetix waits for running scans to complete before it installs an update.
