Multiple Targets showing the same URL after upgrade

After upgrading from Invicti Enterprise (IE) or Acunetix 360 (A360) to Invicti Platform (IP), you may notice multiple Targets listed with the same website URL. This is expected behavior - each Target represents a distinct scan configuration that was preserved from your previous product to ensure continuity.

This document explains why this happens and what you can do about it.

Overview​

In IE and A360, customers can configure multiple Scan Task Groups for the same website. Each Scan Task Group may use different scan configurations, authentication settings, technologies, policies, schedules, or other scan-related settings.

In Invicti Platform, you achieve this by creating separate Targets for each unique configuration set. As a result, the same URL may appear on multiple Targets after upgrade, with each Target representing a different preserved scan configuration.

Why this happens​

In IE and A360:

  • A single website could belong to multiple Scan Task Groups.
  • Each Scan Task Group could scan the same website differently depending on its configuration.

In Invicti Platform:

  • Target settings contain the configuration context directly.
  • Preserving multiple configuration variations therefore requires creating separate Targets.

This ensures that the upgrade preserves the intended scanning behavior and configuration diversity previously used in IE or A360.

Why this matters​

This approach helps preserve operational continuity after upgrade by ensuring:

  • Existing scan behaviors remain available.
  • Different security testing scenarios continue functioning as expected.
  • Specialized configurations aren't lost.
  • You can continue using different scan strategies independently.

Without this separation, upgrading could overwrite or lose important scan configuration differences.

Which Scan Task Groups are carried over​

To avoid bringing over outdated or unused configurations, Invicti carries over only Scan Task Groups used within the last 3 months before upgrade. Invicti doesn't migrate unused or inactive Scan Task Groups outside this timeframe.

Is this a duplication issue?​

No. Although multiple Targets may use the same URL, each Target represents a different preserved configuration set originating from separate Scan Task Groups in IE or A360.

Can I merge these Targets later?​

Yes. After upgrade, you can review Targets and decide whether some configurations are no longer needed or can be consolidated.

Are schedules preserved after upgrade?​

Invicti handles schedules separately during upgrade. Refer to the scheduled scans upgrade document for additional details.
