Start an instant scan
You can start an instant scan to immediately run a security scan on a project. The scan is added to the scan queue and begins as soon as a slot is available.
Prerequisites
- You must have write permission on scans.
Start an instant scan
- Select Scans from the left-side menu.
- Click + Start Instant Scan in the upper-right corner.
- In the dialog, fill in the following fields:

| Project name | The project to scan. Start typing to search for a project. | Yes |
| Scanner | The scanner to use. The list shows the available scanners configured for the selected project, along with the branch and metadata. | Yes |
- Click Start Scan.
The scan is added to the queue with a Scheduled scan type and starts as soon as a slot is available.
tip
You can also start an instant scan from the project-level Scans tab under a specific project. When triggered from a project, the project is preselected in the dialog.
Schedule a scan for a specific date
To schedule a scan for a future date instead of running one immediately, see Schedule a scan.
Restrictions
You can't start an instant scan in the following cases:
- Disabled scanners: if the scanner tool has been disabled, it doesn't appear in the scanner list.
- Manual scanners: scanners configured for manual imports can't be used for instant scans.
